17 Weeks

17 Weeks

17 Weeks seems like a lot! In only 3 weeks I'm going to be half way there! That's what I think is most crazy. One book that I read this morning said that the baby was about 4 1/2 inches long. It said to take your hand and measure the distance from your thumb to your pinky ...it's about that size. When I did that this morning, I told Artie, "holy cow, that's in me?" I definitely am popping out. People can certainly tell that I am pregnant! There is no way that I can hide a belly now. It's there! I've been using the belly band much more often since it just makes my clothes more comfortable. But I also don't really like something right up against my stomach pushing on it. Today, I joked with another teacher because I wear a lanyard with the keys to my room on it. It was bouncing off my belly. The poor baby is getting bonked in the head every time I take a step. :-) Well, that's about all for now. On to my weekly quiz. Enjoy!

17 Week Quiz

How far along: 17 weeks and 1 day today

Weight gain: I weighed myself yesterday on the scale and I was up 7 1/2 pounds.

Maternity clothes: I haven't even tried to put on maternity clothes. My clothes are definitely getting a lot tighter and I need the belly band now more than ever, but I still haven't gone for it yet. I do need to purchase myself a pair of maternity jeans that will fit me well (not too long) because I really want a good pair of jeans that I feel okay in.

Stretch marks: Just old ones. Come on cocoa butter... please work!

Sleep: I was waking up quite often in a panic because of the way that I was laying. I know that the doctor said that it really didn't matter if I was on my back because I am not too heavy, but it still concerned me. So, after talking to my mom who told me in a joking manner of course, "They didn't care about that when you were younger... Let's see... Bobby got his brains because I slept on my back, Scott got his athleticism because I slept on my right side, and I fell flat on my belly with you when I was 8 months pregnant. So there you go." I know it sounds so silly, but that actually made me stop worrying about it!

Best moment of the week: Realizing that my belly has popped and how big the baby really is.

Movement: Haven't had anything that I can say for sure that I feel movement. I sometimes think I feel something, but then who knows. I don't know what I'm supposed to be feeling or not.

Food cravings: All I want is sushi... good sushi!

Labor signs: No!

Belly button in or out: Still in... it better stay in, I've got a deep belly button.

What I miss: I miss getting to eat whatever I want without having to worry about it. Is it hot enough? What else has the knife that prepared this touched? Can I digest that? Is it good for the baby?

What I'm looking forward to: I don't know what I'm looking forward to right now. Maybe just some good R and R this weekend!

Weekly wisdom: If you have to worry about something, worry about things that you can actually affect.

Milestones: Your baby's skeleton is changing from soft cartilage to bone, and the umbilical cord — her lifeline to the placenta — is growing stronger and thicker. Your baby weighs 5 ounces now (about as much as a turnip), and she's around 5 inches long from head to bottom. She can move her joints, and her sweat glands are starting to develop.

Bye Bye hip bones!
